After spending only just 7 weeks preparing and rehearsing for our Advanced Diploma Graduate Showcase, everything has come together nicely and we're ready to rock! The scenes in this show have been tailored to highlight each of us and our strengths.  We also managed to include some singing in our intro and ending which is something you don't usually see at CADA shows, unless it's for the musical theatre class, but it's a great addition because it also allows people to see our other talents. I was lucky enough to be in charge of allocating particular songs to particular people. I had a lot of fun with that!

Another unusual addition to this graduate showcase is the premiere showing of our short film 'The Flow Down' directed by John Concannon, which we made for our advanced screen class.  It's going to be great to be able to show our abilities not only on stage but also on screen. I'm particularly happy about that because I'm focusing on a career in film and television. I was honoured to be asked to be in charge of make-up for the film. I've never done make-up on anyone other than myself so I was a bit worried but I'm always up for challenging myself and doing new things. I spent some time learning about doing make-up for black and white film and also the style of make-up that was in fashion during the 1940's, the time which our film is set.

Come and support us at our last show at CADA! Our shows are on between the 14-16 July at 7.30pm, @ 1/9 Lithgow St., Fyshwick, ACT. Tickets can booked online @ http://www.cada.net.au/productions.html or at the door (unless sold out). Don't miss it!

March 2017

This month has been a busy one. At the very start of March, I was busy filming 'Through Anything' which was written and directed by Tobias O'Leary.  I've worked with Tobias before on Razor's Edge and I was lucky to be approached by him to work on this project. It's a story he's been wanting to film for a while. The content is quite heavy due to its subject matter of a married couple having to deal with the tragedy of losing their child. Tobias was confident in my abilities as an actor to be able to convey the emotions he wants so I put a bit of pressure on myself because I didn't want to let him down. Filming was done in only three days, the reason being he wanted to enter a shortened version of the film into the Lights Canberra Action competition. Originally the film is meant to be about 15min but LCA rules state films can only be a maximum of 7min.

I was asked to source a wedding dress for one of the scenes. I spent ages trying to find something as decent as I could for as little as possible. My patience finally paid off and I ended up finding a beautiful gown for $50! If you'd like to see the gown and the shortened version of the film, you can watch it here in the Reel section of this website.

After filming was over, I was able to put all my attention onto the cabaret show 'The Only Constant Thing' for my Song and Dance class at CADA.  I've been looking forward to this class since I started at CADA and although the format is very different from any of the other times they've held this class, the fact that we get to focus on singing has been something I've really enjoyed.  For this show, we were given the task of writing our own piece to perform as long as it fits in with the topic of 'change'. Within our acting performance, we had to choose around three songs to go with our story. It's been interesting to see how 'change' meant for each of us in the class. The first and biggest thing for me was my life and some major events I've been through. The hardest part for me was being able to condense those parts of my life within the given time frame but I've also been worrying about singing in front of people. I love singing but I've only just recently had professional training and only for a short time.

Come and watch us all at Smith's Alternative 76 Alinga St, Civic
We perform at 9.30pm, Saturday, April 1 & 5.30pm Sunday 2 April.
